Picnics & Fishing

Image
If you love picnics and/or fishing, October & November are the best months to visit Vayu Kutir - Pong reservoir is topped up from monsoon rains and the weather is salubrious. Grassy and soft flat ground on the reservoir bank near Vayu Kutir, interspersed with shady trees makes ideal picnic spot for a day out with the family. There is little human presence around though you are within shouting distance of farmer homes. If you have fishing gear, you can get a fishing license for a day or more. Angling from the shore would be a good way of spending your day but would probably not enable you to cancel your dinner order based on your catch. A reasonable monetary inducement can enthuse a fisherman to take you to deeper waters in his boat. With some luck, and a Clint Eastwoodian 'Make my day' you could end up catching a 5 plus kg Mahseer.

Vayu Kutir is itself a destination which offers hiking trails, riverside walks, barbecue & bonfire. You can enjoy watching fish (Koi, Goldfish, Silver Sharks and River Carps) in our aquarium standard large fishpond. We have two smaller fish ponds besides a lotus and a lily pond.  A day spent at Vayu Kutir can be as much fun as a day spent at any destination! Many of our short stay guests lament when leaving, "We wish we had known how beautiful the property is. We would have set aside a day for Vayu Kutir!"  To encourage our guests to set aside a day for Vayu Kutir, we have a rule - If you set aside a day for Vayu Kutir, your hosts set aside a day to help you enjoy your day Vayu Kutir - We can accompany you on hikes and riverside walks and share a complimentary Kangra dham (meal) with you. Fish Pond At Vayu Kutir we have a massive (50,000 litres) acquarium standard outdoor fish pond, which we believe is the largest privately owned acquarium standard fish pond in the cou

There is an ancient Pandav temple in Dehra that is believed to have been constructed at the time of Mahabharata.  The town started to referred to as Dera from mid 15th century onwards, when foreign invaders used it as a camp (dera) for expedition to frontier hill states.   The British sanctified the reference by officialy referring to the town as Dera.
